One of my BEST Solo Stay in Guangzhou, China ✨

Booked a solo trip to Guangzhou, found a clean and comfy hotel, and unknowingly checked in on White Valentine’s Day (白色情人节). Didn’t even realize until the hotel staff handed me a rose at check-in—a nice little surprise. Ended up sticking it in a mineral water bottle as my makeshift vase. 🌹
Stayed for 8 days at Springtime Hotel, and honestly, I’d come back. The room was neat and well-maintained, and the staff was super friendly. Even though I didn’t have a China number, they helped me connect to WeChat via a QR code, so I could reach them whenever I needed help.
Had a little trouble with the WiFi login (China number required), but all it took was a quick message, and they sent a cleaning lady to assist me. Great service! They also replaced my toiletries daily, even when I barely used them. Only downside? Some hotel patrons were a bit loud in the hallways, but nothing unbearable.
The location was super convenient, just a short walk to the metro, with tons of food options nearby. Perfect for exploring the city. 🌆 Would definitely stay here again—solo traveler approved! ✅

You can’t find this Canto Souvenir anywhere else ✨
I found this small calligraphy shop in Guangzhou that sells handmade framed calligraphy, bamboo bags, paper fans and other beautiful souvenirs. Since Cantonese is the supposedly local dialect/language, I got calligraphy wishes written in Cantonese instead of the usual Mandarin ones. 🖼️
The uncle running the shop was so nice! We had a small chat about my trip, and he even gave me recommendations on other places to visit. As he packed my frames, he took the time to write extra calligraphy on the paper bags—on the spot—so each one became even more special.
I don’t speak Cantonese, but I did my best to visualize the pronunciation and meanings as he patiently explained them to me. (not easy, but I tried!) It wasn’t just a shopping stop but a cultural experience, a language challenge, and a memory I’ll keep with me. Highly recommend stopping by if you’re ever in Guangzhou! 🛍️

Underrated stand-up comedy activity in Guangzhou

I was just scrolling through short-form content one day when I came across some funny clips of a stand-up show happening in Guangzhou. I had never heard of a stand up comedy before, but it looked fun, so I thought, why not give it a shot?
The setup was simple with rows of seats facing the small stage where comedians took turns with their “speeches.” and some of the jokes had me actually laughing out loud! They also interacted with the audience, which made the whole thing feel more personal (though I was slightly terrified I’d get called out 😰).
Of course, there were a few local jokes that totally flew over my head, but the energy in the room made up for it. The kind of place where laughter is contagious, and you just enjoy the moment with everyone around you. 🤣
It’s one of those random things I never planned for, but it ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. If you ever come across something unexpected while travelling, give it a try! You never know what fun you might stumble into.
